Madison, WI – One City Schools boys’ basketball saw success on the hardwood over the weekend, as the 8th grade team won the Madison Area Independent Sports League (MAISL) Basketball Tournament. The 7th grade team took an early loss in the tournament Friday but then roared back to win the rest of its games, culminating in a consolation championship game win over Westside Christian 52-51. The 8th graders bested Queen of Peace 47-45, capping off an undefeated season that saw the team finish a perfect 14-0. This is the first season One City Schools has participated in the MAISL league in the sport of basketball.
The One City Schools girls’ basketball team also marked its debut this winter, taking fourth place in the MAISL 8th grade tournament.
“Whether on the court or in the classroom, our Scholar athletes are learning the importance of hard work and persistence and how together they lead to success,” One City Schools CEO Kaleem Caire said. “Education is all about opportunity, growth, and developing well-rounded skills that will serve these young people throughout life.”
The accomplishments for the basketball teams come on the heels of One City Schools winning honors in football in the fall MAISL season. The 5th and 6th grade football team won the consolation championship game, while the 7th and 8th graders earned the MAISL championship against Edgewood Campus School. This fall was the second season that One City Schools participated in the MAISL football league.
