UW Health: Newsweek ranks UW Health best hospital in Wisconsin

MADISON, Wis. – UW Health has again been included on Newsweek’s list of the World’s Best Hospitals.

UW Health University Hospital was ranked the top hospital in Wisconsin. It was also ranked 27th in the United States and ranked 145th of the 250 best-ranked hospitals in the world. This year, University Hospital was also ranked a world leader in infection prevention.

The World’s Best Hospitals 2025 list ranks the best hospitals in 30 countries, and these hospitals were selected based on multiple factors, such as standard of living and life expectancy, population size, number of hospitals and data availability. Newsweek and Statista awarded the best hospitals a final score based on four data sources:

  • Recommendations from medical experts through an online survey among tens of thousands of doctors, health care professionals and hospital managers in 30 countries.
  • Results from surveys of patient satisfaction with hospitalization.
  • Hospital quality metrics such as data on the quality of care for treatments, hygiene measures, patient safety and waiting times.
  • A Statista survey of patient reported outcome measures, or PROMs, which is an optional online survey on the implementation and use of PROMs in hospitals.

University Hospital has been ranked every year that Newsweek has released this list.

“We’re very proud to be recognized on Newsweek’s World’s Best Hospitals 2025 list,” said Dr. Alan Kaplan, CEO, UW Health. “For seven years now, we’ve shown that UW Health consistently provides the highest quality care for our patients in Wisconsin and beyond.”

The award list was announced on February 26 and can be viewed here.
