Civic Media Re-launches WHSM “Musky 101”

and Debuts Brewers Baseball on WBZH

Madison, WI (March 4, 2025) –Civic Media has received approval from the Federal Communications Commission to acquire radio station WHSM, 101.1 FM in Hayward. The growing Wisconsin media company has brought back the popular nickname “Musky 101” and has returned to a country music format, with local information, human voices, and local personality.

Civic Media VP of Programming Aaron Carreno said, “Musky 101 is uniquely Hayward with personalities that have built lifelong relationships in the community and throughout the northwoods.  We’re ecstatic to welcome Mark Lundeen, a familiar face (and voice) to help lead our team in addition to Katie Kruz and Gray Gunderson who will round out our on-air lineup. I can’t wait for Hayward to hear our refreshed radio station!”

Civic Media CEO Sage Weil said, “We are thrilled to be expanding our presence in Hayward by bringing a music format to the community.  We look forward to building relationships with local listeners and businesses and to make this a vibrant local radio station that helps listeners stay in touch with the local area.”

Musky 101 is Civic Media’s second station in Hayward, after WBZH, 96.9 FM and 910 AM, which airs a Wisconsin-focused pro-democracy news and talk radio format. Both stations feature local, regional, and state news to keep listeners informed.

Civic Media has also finalized an agreement with the Milwaukee Brewers to bring baseball to Sawyer County on WBZH 910 AM and 96.9 FM. WBZH will broadcast all spring training and regular season games.
