Wisconsin PGA: Expands Junior Cup Golf program with Golf Galaxy/Dick’s Sporting Good Foundation “Sports Matter Grant”, adds tournaments to 2025 season

WEST ALLIS, Wis. (October 23, 2024) – Wisconsin PGA Junior Foundation selected as the 2025 Golf Galaxy / DICK’S Sporting Goods Foundation’s “Sports Matter Program grant recipient. With a $5,000 grant WPGA announces the expansion of the Junior Cup Golf Tournaments Series for the 2025 golf season.   

WPGA has partnered with the Junior Cup Golf committee to help host official golf events to provide tournament experience for junior golfers. The first Junior Cup Golf event was hosted at Moor Downs Golf Course (Waukesha) on June 18, 2024, with 72 players. With the receipt of the Golf Galaxy / DICK’s Sporting Goods “Sports Matter Grant”, WPGA will be able to add two or three tournament events next year. 

“We are eager and excited to provide this funding that will enable the WPGA Junior Foundation to bring this vision to life and contribute to positive change in the community through youth sports.  We believe sports have the ability to change lives, and we are proud to provide additional opportunities to grow the game” Matthew Reel, PGA General Manager, of Golf Galaxy Performance Center in Madison, Wis.

Golf Galaxy / DICK’S Sporting Goods has been a longtime supporter of the WPGA providing an annual contribution of $1,000 over the past several years. This year’s $5,000 contribution was on behalf of collaboration among all four Wisconsin Golf Galaxy locations; Appleton, Brookfield, Greendale, and Madison.

“We are very excited to receive this grant from DICK’s Sporting Goods. This will give us the opportunity to grow our junior programs.” said Andy Landenberger, Director of Junior Golf for the WPGA Junior Foundation.

Junior Cup Golf is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides opportunities to young athletes aspiring to play competitive golf in high school and fosters fun environments that promote education and development in the game of golf. While the sport of golf is traditionally an individual sport, our organization forms community-based teams of junior golfers to learn, train, and compete against other community-based teams. Junior Cup Golf not only educates junior golfers on the fundamentals of golf, but also promotes core values such as patience, respect, integrity, teamwork and sportsmanship. The program currently hosts teams for junior golfers that reside in the following school districts: Arrowhead, Brookfield East, Germantown, Kettle Moraine, Menomonee Falls, Pewaukee, and Sussex Hamilton.
