Bayfield Summer Concerts: Classical Bayfield Concert series awarded four grants

Bayfield, Wis. (May 31, 2024) – Thanks to four grants Bayfield Summer Concerts (BSC) announces another exciting season. The Wisconsin Arts Board and Chequamegon Bay Arts Council awarded a grant of $3,000 to support the entire series.

The Duluth Superior Area Community Foundation (DSACF) Human Rights Fund awarded  $2000 to support a Chippewa Heritage concert, the DSACF Apostle Islands Fund made an award of $1400 to support a Maritime Heritage Concert and the DSACF Mary Rice Fund made an award of $3,000 to support the ten concert Classical Series. All of the grant money will go directly to the artists.

These grants, and other gifts, make it possible for the non profit BSC to carry on with its tradition of relying only on at the door donations to stage classical, historical and world music concerts every summer since 1997. The 2024 concerts are at 5:30 on Wednesdays at the Bayfield Presbyterian Church — except for the first one on June 19 in the special setting of the Bayfield Maritime Museum.

Based on previous years, nearly a thousand local people and visitors are expected for these educational and entertaining live performances of classical and new music. Fellowship musicians from the world-renowned Madeline Island Chamber Music will be given a venue to perform as part of their advanced student experience, and area Chippewa drum song students will be given a venue and compensation for performance. There will be something for everyone:  Bayfield Heritage, Chippewa Heritage, American Jazz Roots, Latin art music, vocal art music, new composition, original creation, baroque keyboard, classic opera, music theatre, classical piano, and string quartet.
