MIDDLETON, Wis. (Dec.11, 2023) – On Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2023, Peter Bonvillain and Joseph Douglas, both employees at Natus Medical Inc., will be honored by the American Red Cross of Wisconsin Southwest Chapter for helping a coworker in need of medical attention. The awards presentation will take place at 2 p.m. at Natus Medical Inc., 3150 Pleasant View Road.
While at work on May 26, 2023, Peter Bonvillain noticed his coworker bleeding from his left forearm. Bonvillain who is certified in First Aid, CPR and AED, directed other employees to call 911 and get first aid supplies. He then assisted the injured coworker by cleaning the injury and stopping the bleeding until EMS could arrive. The injured coworker was in shock and Bonvillain was able to deal with the situation while keeping his composure which helped those around him to also stay calm. Bonvillain also assisted his injured coworker in avoiding additional injuries.
“I am proud to have the knowledge and skills to know what to do in an emergency situation,” said Bonvillain. “When time is of the essence, I learned to step up, stay calm and delegate which all lead to a successful lifesaving outcome.”
Bonvillain will receive the American Red Cross Lifesaving Award Certificate of Merit. This is the highest award given by the American Red Cross to an individual or team of individuals who saves or sustains a life by using skills and knowledge learned in an American Red Cross Health and Safety Services course. Douglas, who is Bonvillain’s coworker and his Red Cross training instructor, will receive the American Red Cross Lifesaving Instructor Award. This is one of the highest awards given by the American Red Cross to instructors who teach the skills that help to save or sustain lives.
“I am proud of Peter’s response to the injury.” said Douglas. “He followed protocols as taught and used sound judgement. It just proves when a person receives first aid training and when procedures are followed in an emergency it works.”
