Movin’ Out will host a grand opening for the André Apartments on Thursday, Oct. 5 from 3-5 p.m. The André building is a multi-family development at Winnebago Street and Sixth Street that provides affordable and accessible apartments, with Red Caboose Child Care Center’s new, larger location on the ground floor.
The André is named to honor André Brown, who passed away in 2022. André inspired the creation of Movin’ Out and became one of its longest serving employees. He was an alumni of Red Caboose Child Care Center.
These apartments provide people with disabilities with community-integrated living opportunities. In this building, eight of the 28 units are reserved for individuals with disabilities or households including someone with a disability. This project provides residents with access to high quality child care services on site, and connects Red Caboose teachers and others with affordable housing opportunities.
Kathryne Auerback, Chief Executive Officer of Movin’ Out, emphasizes the importance of the project. “We know the long-term impact of high-quality, early child care, and the difference that can make in people’s lives in the long term. Having a safe, affordable, stable place to live is equally critical, and that makes the impact of this project life changing.”
The event includes light refreshments and building tours. A brief program begins at 3:30 pm, with remarks from Movin’ Out and key project partners including:
Elmer Moore, CEO at WHEDA
Deputy Mayor Dr. Linda Vakunta, City of Madison
Alder Marsha Rummel
Katie Naftzger, Community Investment Officer, Sr. VP at Federal Home Loan Bank
Joe Neri, CEO at IFF
Pam Skeel, Executive Director at Red Caboose Childcare
Find the André Apartments at 2340 Winnebago Street in Madison. Guests are asked to park on the street. Follow event signs and take the stairs or elevator to the Community Room on the second floor.
