APPLETON – Dr. Kevin Gaw will join Lawrence University on June 1 as the Riaz Waraich Dean of the Career Center and Center for Community Engagement and Social Change (CCE).
Lawrence’s Career Center works with students, beginning as early as their first year, to connect them with resources and mentors while providing guidance in finding internships and other career opportunities. The CCE works to be a connector for collaborations with partners in the greater Appleton community, fostering a campus culture that strives to further social progress, mitigate inequity, and develop durable, reciprocal partnerships with local nonprofits and municipal agencies.
Gaw comes to Lawrence from Bryant University in Smithfield, Rhode Island, where he has served as executive director of the Amica Center for Career Education since 2015.
His background in fostering a student-centered environment includes establishing the Bryant Employer Advisory Team (the BEAT), the Employer Recognition Program, and the Amica Center Career Champions program, recognizing faculty and staff career champions.
Gaw’s career over the past 28 years includes seven years at Georgia State University, where he served as senior director of University Career Services, and four years at University of Nevada at Reno as director of Career Development. He has served as a counseling psychologist with the Counseling and Testing Center at the University of Nevada and with the Center for Personal and Professional Development at Missouri University of Science and Technology.
Gaw received a doctorate in counseling psychology from the University of California, Santa Barbara, a masters in education (counseling and student personnel) from San José State University, and a bachelor of arts in anthropology and Southeast Asian studies from the University of California, Santa Cruz.
