STEVENS POINT, Wis. (April 14, 2023) GI Associates Pathology Lab has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® for Comprehensive Accreditation for Laboratory and Point-of-Care Testing in histopathology. The GI Associates pathology and histology team earned this accreditation decision by demonstrating continuous compliance with its performance standards. The Gold Seal is a symbol of quality that reflects a health care organization’s commitment to providing safe and quality patient care.

“By earning this accreditation, the GI Associates pathology team, under the medical direction of Dr. Fushen Xu, demonstrates to our patients that the GI Associates Pathology Lab provides the highest level of care,” said Dr. Melinda Wayde, Chair, GI Associates Clinical Practice Committee. “Our program is dedicated exclusively to gastroenterology, thus providing our physicians with high quality and timely pathology results. Receiving pathology results back quickly provides our patients peace of mind.”

GI Associates underwent a rigorous, unannounced onsite review on January 10, 2023. During the visit, a team of The Joint Commission reviewers evaluated compliance for Comprehensive Accreditation for Laboratory and Point-of-Care Testing standards related to operational systems critical to the safety and quality of patient care, specifically procedures for tissue preparation and taking steps to prevent contamination for evaluation of test results from endoscopies, colonoscopies and colposcopies.

“As a health care accreditor, The Joint Commission works with health care organizations across settings to help improve patient safety and quality of care through our expert resources and tools, innovative solutions and rigorous standards,” says Deborah Ryan, MS, RN, interim executive vice president, Accreditation and Certification Operations, The Joint Commission. “We commend GI Associates for its commitment to advance safety and quality for all patients.”
