Milwaukee Science Education Consortium Board of Directors: Business and education leaders named to Milwaukee Academy of Science Board

Dan Jessup, Adam Schmidt and Peter Tomasi have recently been elected members of the Milwaukee Science Education Consortium Board of Directors. The board oversees the operations of the Milwaukee Academy of Science (MAS). MAS is a City of Milwaukee independent charter school (K4-12) that emphasizes Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) to prepare inner city youth for college and subsequent careers. The school recently completed a $1 million expansion and renovation.

Jessup is an Executive Vice President and head of Jones Lang LaSalle’s Milwaukee office. Schmidt is Director, Recruitment at Teach For America, the national corps of outstanding recent college graduates and young professionals who commit to teaching in low-income U.S. communities for at least two years. Tomasi is a partner with Quarles & Brady LLP, where he focuses his practice on environmental and natural resources issues.

MAS was founded in 2000 by T. Michael Bolger, the former president of the Medical College of Wisconsin. It is the largest K4-12 college preparatory charter school in the state with nearly 950 students from the City of Milwaukee. While the majority of its students live below the federal poverty level, they challenge conventional norms of achievement among at-risk populations by consistently demonstrating advancing accomplishments through improved test scores.
