Blackhawk Technical College: J.P. Cullen & Sons provide scholarships to five Blackhawk Technical College students

JANESVILLE, WI – Five students enrolled in the accounting, information technology and administrative professional programs at Blackhawk Technical College have been named the first-ever designees of the new J.P. Cullen & Sons Scholarship, the BTC Foundation announced.

The $1,000 scholarships, aimed at students in programs related to the business performance of a company, were awarded to:

* Michael Burkholder, Janesville, IT-Web Analyst Programmer.
* Kimberly Hauri, Clinton, IT-Web Analyst Programmer.
* Jason Howard, Janesville, Accounting.
* Kelly Kilmer, Janesville, Accounting & Legal Administration.
* Jessica Lopez, Janesville, Administrative Professional.

J.P. Cullen & Sons is a nationally recognized construction company based in Janesville which has a long and beneficial relationship with Blackhawk Technical College. Company project managers and tradespeople serve on Blackhawk advisory boards for programs in construction and business related trades.

The scholarship program was announced last fall. The company is committing $25,000 to the program that is scheduled to run five years.

The scholarship winners were selected by the BTC Foundation from a pool that applied by the December 20 deadline. Applications were reviewed, scored and ranked based on the students’ commitment to education, career goals, community service, work experience and financial need.

Students interested in applying for the scholarship for the 2015 spring semester need to be enrolled in one of the three eligible programs (Accounting, Information Technology, Administrative Professional) and carrying at least six credits with an overall grade point average of 2.5.
