Charitable Causes Earn Wisconsin Restaurant National Recognition
For most people, Monday is a drag, but for charities like OccuPaws Guide Dog Association, Waukesha C.A.R.E. Center, Echo Food Pantry, and so many others, it’s a day when a difference is truly made. As part of Make a Difference Mondays, Wisconsin’s Quaker Steak & Lubes use Mondays to donate five percent of food sales to local charities.
In total, the Quaker Steak & Lube restaurants in Wisconsin—in Middleton, New Berlin and the new location in Janesville—have donated over $95,000 to charities like these. That’s no small number, which is why it’s no surprise the corporate Quaker Steak & Lube office awarded the Wisconsin locations with its Ray Travaglini award, which recognizes the Quaker Steak & Lube restaurants that gives the most back to its community.
“Winning the award is nice, but it’s not the reason we created Make a Difference Mondays,” said Scott Acker, who owns the Wisconsin franchise locations. “For these charities, it’s a great way for them to get necessary funding. Through Make a Difference Mondays, kids have toys for Christmas, families have holiday dinners and care for victims of abuse. Yes, the award is nice, but helping these noble causes is great.”
Not only has Acker embraced the community with Make a Difference Mondays, the community has embraced it. Although 2013 has just concluded, already the Make a Difference Monday slots are filling up for 2014.
“With three locations and 52 weeks per year, that means we’ll help 156 charities in 2014. That’s 156 charities who will receive the funding they need to help even more people, support even more causes and really help our community.”
The original Quaker Steak & Lube was founded in 1974 and built in an abandoned gas station in Sharon, Pennsylvania as a cook-your-own steak restaurant. Today, The Lube® has won over 100 national and international awards for their wings and 21 different wing sauces. The Lube features unique décor items including Race Cars suspended from the ceilings, Motorcycles, Corvettes and Gas Station Memorabilia decorating the walls.
