Madison, Wis. (June 8, 2007) – Matt Giesfeldt will attempt to set the Guinness World Record for continuous stationary bicycling on the campus of Edgewood College from June 12 to June 15. Giesfeldt, a 2006 graduate of the College and fourth grade teacher at Jefferson Elementary School in Janesville, Wis., plans to pedal 85 hours to raise money for cancer research through his fundraiser, “Teacher Trek for Cancer.”
If successful, Giesfeldt will eclipse the current world record of 84 hours on Friday, June 15. The event is scheduled to take place in the Nona McGreal Room located in the Henry J. Predolin Humanities Center. Giesfeldt hopes to raise $20,000 during the process, which will be donated directly to the Lance Armstrong Foundation.
Giesfeldt hopes to reach his fundraising goal through support from friends and local school children. Other stationary bicycles will also be set up in the Nona McGreal Room so that anyone can join in the effort.
