MADISON – Community-based organizations that plan economic opportunities for Wisconsin communities and residents will want to apply for a grant from the Department of Commerce (Commerce) Community Based Economic Development (CBED) Program. Applications are now available for the 2006 grant cycle and the deadline is Jan. 20, 2006.
“Governor Doyle’s Grow Wisconsin Agenda 2005 calls for investing in our communities through promoting entrepreneurship and business development,” said Commerce Secretary
Mary P. Burke. “The CBED program is a great resource for communities and organizations that are investing in their communities and promoting economic development.”
The CBED Program is designed to promote local business development in economically distressed areas. The program awards grants to community-based organizations for development and business assistance projects and for Youth Entrepreneurship projects. The program also helps community-based organizations plan, build, and create business and technology-based incubators.
A broad range of activities are eligible for funding. Commerce is particularly interested in projects that help develop or expand tech-based incubators, target youth entrepreneurship or promote regional community development.
Three complete sets of the application must be submitted or postmarked by Jan. 20, 2006. One of the copies must contain an original signature of the chief executive officer of the municipality or community-based organization.
Applications can be obtained from the Commerce website at www.commerce.wi.gov/CD/CD-bcf-cbed.html or by contacting Doug Thurlow, Commerce, at 608/266-7942.
