MADISON, WI (Feb 23, 2005) – When Mark Clear left his day job in 1995 to start a company building something called “Web sites”, the toughest part was educating people about the possibilities of the Internet. Jump ahead as IMS celebrates its ten year anniversary and Clear will tell you not much has changed.

“Many businesses think if they have a Web site they’ve satisfied that business requirement,” said Clear, now Chief Executive Officer at IMS. “In reality a Web site is only a small component of the overall business solutions made possible by Internet technology. I still spend a good deal of time working closely with customers, explaining how their organization can use technology to improve efficiency, cut costs, and communicate more effectively with their customers.”

Now located in downtown Madison, two blocks from the capitol, IMS has matured from a startup web company of the 90’s to an experienced application development firm, partnering with companies that require high end application integration and development work. Their list of clients includes several publicly traded companies located in the Chicago area, like MB Financial Bank and Navteq, as well as local organizations like the Greater Madison Convention and Visitors Bureau, Physicians Plus, and WARF.

“If you haven’t heard of IMS, it’s probably because the majority of our business solutions are under the hood type stuff,” explains Partner and Senior Developer Sam Hokin. “We write custom Web applications that run companies’ Intranets or Extranets, that integrate various data sources with other applications, or that power Online content and marketing efforts. It may not be glamorous, but in the words of one of our clients, we’re ‘the guys that make it work.’ ”

Maintaining a low profile doesn’t seem to bother Clear, who says the company always valued hard work and customer relationships over high tech hype and hubris.

“We’re choosy about our clients, because their success and ours depends on a trusting two way relationship,” said Clear. “It’s easy to get burned during a large scale IT implementation project, so IMS places an emphasis on up front, open communication and experienced project management. Anybody can brag about cool technology, but we believe our real innovation is a fundamental commitment to building long lasting business relationships with our customers.”

Perhaps the best testament to this is that one of IMS’ first customers, the Greater Madison Convention and Visitors Bureau, is still with them after 10 years.

“IMS has provided the GMCVB with comprehensive and attentive service and excellent advice over the years, on a number of development projects,” said Deb Archer, President of GMCVB. “The team at IMS is knowledgeable and flexible. We consider them a trusted partner.”
