Wisconsin Energy Corporation: Regulators approve large clean energy project for We Energies customers

Another large renewable energy project in Wisconsin is moving forward. The Public Service Commission of Wisconsin unanimously approved We Energies’ purchase today of the High Noon Solar Energy Center.

The High Noon Solar Energy Center features 300 MW of solar generation — which is equal to powering about 90,000 homes. The project will also feature 165 MW of battery storage which can store solar-generated power and discharge it when the sun goes down. It will be built in Columbia County.

The High Noon project is an important part of We Energies’ commitment to reduce emissions and support reliability, while strengthening economic development and job growth across the state.

“We appreciate the Commission and staff’s thorough review and the Commission’s unanimous approval of this project,” said Mike Hooper president — We Energies. “Our customers count on us to deliver reliable energy 24/7. Projects like this one, and our planned investments in low-carbon natural gas power plants, will ensure reliability and promote economic growth across the state.”

We Energies is the majority owner of the project. Wisconsin Public Service and Madison Gas and Electric are also co-owners.

The High Noon Solar Energy Center is expected to start serving customers in 2027.
