MILWAUKEE_The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee is proud to welcome Ada Limón, the 24th poet laureate of the United States, as part of its Distinguished Lecture Series. Limón, an award-winning poet and MacArthur “Genius” Fellow, will speak at UWM on Tuesday, April 15, sharing insights from her celebrated career in poetry, literature and the intersection of art and the natural world.
Limón is the author of six books of poetry, including “The Carrying,” winner of the National Book Critics Circle Award, and “Bright Dead Things,” which was nominated for the National Book Award. Her latest book, “The Hurting Kind,” was shortlisted for the Griffin Poetry Prize. She is also the author of two children’s books: “In Praise of Mystery” and “And, Too, The Fox,” which was released this year.
As U.S. poet laureate, Limón launched “You Are Here,” a signature project focusing on how poetry can help us connect to the natural world. In addition to receiving a Guggenheim Fellowship, she made history when her poem was engraved on NASA’s Europa Clipper spacecraft, which launched to Jupiter’s second moon in October 2024. Limón was also named a Time Magazine Woman of the Year in 2024.
