ThedaCare: ThedaCare medical center-Fond du Lac scheduled to open on April 16

Enhancing Convenient Access to Comprehensive Care

FOND DU LAC, Wis. — ThedaCare is pleased to announce the opening of ThedaCare Medical Center-Fond du Lac, the health system’s ninth hospital. Care teams are prepared to welcome first patients on Wednesday, April 16, 2025. The organization broke ground on the health campus in February 2024.

“ThedaCare Medical Center-Fond du Lac expands convenient access to care for those living in northeast and central Wisconsin,” said Robert Cavagnol, MD, MHA, FACS, North Region President, Froedtert ThedaCare Health. “This campus extends the trusted medical care we currently provide the people of this area. It also gives us an opportunity to ensure access to higher levels of care when needed – which can be done as part of our larger integrated system.”

The campus, which is located at 755 W. Johnson St., complements community development underway and will be conveniently located in a retail district near Interstate 41, central to the people of this region.

“When we explored the opportunity to create a new health campus in Fond du Lac, we aimed to understand the needs of this community,” said Jenny Nikolai, MBA, FACHE, PMP, Vice President of ThedaCare Medical Centers-Fond du Lac and Oshkosh. “We know that demand for access to care continues to grow in Fond du Lac, where city and county populations have steadily increased over the past decade. We’re grateful that our health care system now has the opportunity to enhance high-quality, safe care for this community.”

Caring for the Community
The Fond du Lac campus is 25,000 sq. ft., with an estimated $35M investment. The hospital is equipped with an Emergency Department (ED), 10 inpatient beds, and 24/7 coverage with board-certified emergency medicine physicians. For patients requiring additional care, observation and tests, 24/7 Computed Tomography (CT) scans, x-ray and ultrasound with outpatient access is offered. The campus will also feature select specialty care services including cardiovascular care.

It will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year.

“When we imagined this health campus, we designed it with patients and families in mind,” said Nikolai. “Throughout all of the planning, design work and detail – it’s all focused on our patients and community members. Our goal is to meet patients where they are – where they live, work and enjoy life.”

The new space includes a designated Emergency Department (ED) entrance, eight ED beds and other areas that support our staff to care for patients. The team’s workstation will be located in the center of the area, with treatment rooms on the perimeter, giving teams a direct line of sight into each room.

“During an emergency situation – minutes count,” said Dr. Cavagnol. “In those instances, time is critical. Our goal is that people understand ThedaCare Medical Center-Fond du Lac is a location where they can receive emergent care when they need it most. If a higher level of care is required, we will work within our comprehensive system to get that person to the right location.”

More services may be added over time based on community need.

Construction partners included Hplex Solutions as the owner representative; HGA as the architect and engineer; Miron Construction Co., Inc. as the construction manager; and the Sigma Group as the civil engineer and landscape architect. All groups actively worked at the site over the last year to develop the campus for the people of the region.

In addition to the opening of ThedaCare Medical Center-Fond du Lac, work continues at ThedaCare Medical Center-Oshkosh. It is projected to be complete in late 2025.
