Healthline First Aid: Be ready to “spring” into action with lifesaving CPR training

Greenfield, Wis. – Spring is finally here! With warmer weather on its way and several sports coming into season, this is the perfect time for non-medical professionals to review the lifesavings basics of hands-only CPR.

“More than 350,000 cardiac arrests happen outside of hospitals every year,” said Andrew Berger, a nationally registered EMT-paramedic and owner of Healthline First Aid in Greenfield. “We are seeing an alarming increase in young people — including athletes — experiencing cardiac emergencies. We want to train more people to respond to those medical emergencies and, ultimately, save lives.”

Statistics provided by the American Heart Association show that only 40% of people experiencing out-of-hospital cardiac arrest will receive CPR before professional help arrives. Those moments can be the difference between life and death.

According to Berger, learning effective CPR is not difficult or time consuming. In as little as 90 minutes, you can learn and practice the essential skills with Healthline First Aid’s Heartsaver course. In addition to CPR, the training session covers using an automated external defibrillator (AED) which – when used with CPR – drastically improves survival rates.

“You don’t have to be a paramedic to administer CPR or use an AED,” said Berger. “In fact, it’s actually the people who witness the cardiac event who can have the most significant impact on their loved ones’ survival. Minutes — even seconds — can matter.”
