Fair Wisconsin: Sends message of support to trans youth in face of disappointing assembly votes: “Our state is a better place because you are here.”

Today, members of the Wisconsin State Assembly had the opportunity to vote to stop four anti-trans bills from advancing any further in the legislative process. Despite the harm and pain that even considering AB 100, AB 102, AB 103, and AB 104 has already caused, these bills all passed through the Assembly and will now be sent to the Senate for consideration. If these bills receive a vote there and advance further, we know that Governor Evers has pledged to veto any bills that make Wisconsin a less safe, less welcoming place for LGBTQ Wisconsinites. And yet, despite this pledge and his vetoes of previous versions of these bills, anti-equality members of the legislature have prioritized hearings and votes on bills that, just by their very proposal, cause emotional harm to our trans youth and all of those who love and support them. In the face of these harmful actions, the team at Fair Wisconsin has a message to the trans youth of Wisconsin:

We love you. Please remember that there are so many people in this state who love you exactly as you are and exactly as you are becoming. Always know you are worthy of that love, and of your own future. We are grateful for you, and our state is a better place because you are here. We are disappointed by every “yes” vote taken today, and we will continue to fight for you and your future.

Fair Wisconsin is Wisconsin’s only statewide LGBTQ+ civil rights and political advocacy organization. Testimony given by Abigail Swetz, executive director of Fair Wisconsin, on all four of these bills is attached for reference.
