Bayfield, Wis. (April 29, 2025) – The Bayfield community is invited to participate in the upcoming Community Emergency Awareness Day, a free event designed to raise awareness and prepared- ness for emergency situations. The event will be held on Wednesday, May 21 at the Bayfield Fire and EMS Hall at 801 Washington Avenue, from 9 a.m. to Noon.
Participants will have the opportunity to attend four short demonstrations, each lasting 10-15 minutes. These sessions will cover essential emergency preparedness topics such as how to use a fire extinguisher, how to use an AED (automated external defibrillator), how to administer CPR, and how to control bleeding. The purpose of these demonstrations is to impart awareness-level knowledge, not to offer full certification. Information will be available to those who are interested in certification.
Providing basic care immediately can mean the difference between life and death. Additionally, the more accurate information first responders receive upon arrival, the faster they can deliver the necessary help. This is imperative in rural communities like Bayfield, where it could take emergency personnel time to arrive on the scene.
Business owners and their employees are encouraged to attend and bring their first aid kits, fire extinguishers, and emergency plans for review with fire and EMS personnel.
The event is formatted as an open house, allowing participants to attend for as long as they like and revisit stations if desired. There is no cost to attend. Community partners include Bayfield Recreation and Fitness Resources and the Bayfield Chamber and Visitor Bureau.
