Tony Trapp Remodeling: Named NARI National CotY™ Winner

Madison, WI – The National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI) named Tony Trapp Remodeling the 2024 National Contractor of the Year (CotY) winner in the “Universal Design – Kitchen” category at its annual awards competition on April 5.

The winning project is the new kitchen of a fully remodeled farmhouse. Both the kitchen and the complete farmhouse remodel incorporate universal design principles for a modern, wheelchair-accessible space that also allows for aging in place.

Each year, NARI presents CotY Awards to members who have demonstrated outstanding work through their remodeling projects. The CotY Awards are the highest form of recognition by industry leaders and peers.

“NARI CotY winners represent the best of the best in the remodeling industry,” says Tracy Wright, CAE, CNAP, NARI Co-CEO. “This year’s competition received the highest number of entries in over a decade, and the judges consistently commented on the rewards of reviewing this level of superior craftsmanship and design.”

Accessibility features in the kitchen include widely spaced cabinets for ease of mobility, a pullout cutting board and an oversized overhang on the kitchen island with room for wheelchair access, nine-inch toe kicks for clearance underneath kitchen cabinets, as well as a floor plan designed without thresholds.

In addition to the kitchen, the entire house was remodeled for accessibility. Features include a ramp with an automatic opening door that provides easy access from the new garage to the house, a zero-entry shower, lower-height light switches, raised-height wall outlets, reinforced floor framing, and durable porcelain tile. A 750-pound motorized wheelchair lift platform was installed to provide access to the basement workshop, storage, and mechanical systems.
