MADISON, WISCONSIN – StoryFirst Media, a leading film/video production company and story branding firm in Madison, Wisconsin, is thrilled to announce the world premiere of their highly anticipated music documentary, String Theory: The Richard Davis Method, a testament to the vibrant cultural tapestry of Madison and a tribute to one of its most illustrious residents, Richard Davis.
The film will screen as part of the 26th Annual Wisconsin Film Festival on April 7th @ 4:45 PM at Music Hall. Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased through the Wisconsin Film Festival website: wifilmfest.org.
In production since 2018, the documentary explores the enduring legacy of Richard Davis, a virtuoso bass player whose career spanned collaborations with musical giants such as Miles Davis, Van Morrison, and Eric Dolphy. Beyond his performance career, Davis dedicated himself to music education, profoundly impacting the lives of young musicians as a beloved professor at the University of Wisconsin.
The film was directed by StoryFirst Media co-founder and filmmaker Michael Neelsen whose true crime documentary Beyond Human Nature screened at last year’s festival and was hailed as “a fascinating story” by The Los Angeles Times. The film was produced by StoryFirst media co-founder Dave Neelsen, as well as Richard Davis Foundation executives Catherine Harris and Peter Dominguez.
Set against the backdrop of the annual conference put on by The Richard Davis Foundation for Young Bassists in 2018, String Theory: The Richard Davis Method offers an intimate look into Davis’ teaching philosophy, his passion for music, and his deep commitment to nurturing the next generation of talent.
The film gains an added layer of poignancy and urgency following the passing of Richard Davis in Madison on September 6, 2023. String Theory is a heartfelt celebration of Davis’ educational legacy in the city of Madison, and his belief in the transformative power of music to inspire and transcend.
