Madison…The Wisconsin Grocers Association presented Senator Joan Ballweg with the Friend of Grocers Award on October 9, 2024 at Viking Village Foods in Reedsburg.
“As a long-time supporter of our grocers, I am grateful to be recognized by their association,” said Ballweg. “I appreciate the hard work of our local grocers like Viking Village, which are often small independently-owned and family-operated businesses, for providing access to fresh and healthy food.”
Senator Ballweg voted for and led initiatives during the last legislative session to support grocers and their customers:
– Repeal of Personal Property Tax: As a member of the Joint Committee on Finance, Senator Ballweg voted to repeal this tax to provide $173.9 million in tax relief so these savings could be passed on to customers and save businesses time from complying with this complicated tax.
– 2023 Wisconsin Act 201: Senator Ballweg authored the bipartisan legislation to allocate $425,000 of existing state funds to establish a Nutrition Incentive Program. For families that participate in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), this incentive provides extra money to purchase fruits and vegetables at local grocery stores or farmers markets.
“I know my constituents are feeling the pinch when filling up their grocery cart because of high inflation, so I am committed to helping our grocers succeed so they can help keep prices low for consumers,” stated Ballweg.
