Madison, WI – State Representative Ty Bodden (R-Stockbridge) and State Representative Chanz Green (R-Grand View) penned a letter and circulated it among legislative colleagues, asking President Joe Biden to reconsider rolling back rules put in place by President Donald Trump to ensure that there were not blanket protections for animals and plants newly classified as “threatened.” Rep. Bodden issued the following statement regarding a request that President Biden Reconsider ESA Rule Rollback:
“Rolling back these rules could potentially have negative impacts on our lake sturgeon and deer populations as we work towards delisting wolves. While wolves and lake sturgeon are potentially endangered in other states where their listing should remain, Wisconsin is not a state where these animals should be protected. The DNR has been successful in maintaining a strong sturgeon population and a growing wolf population. We should be able to manage these populations as a state, and these rule changes could take us in the wrong direction.”
30 State Assembly Representatives and Senators have signed onto the letter.
