Reach Counseling: April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month

NEENAH, Wis. (April 1, 2024) – Reach Counseling, a sexual assault service provider in the Fox Valley, and its partners are raising awareness this April during Sexual Assault Awareness Month. This year’s theme is “Building Connected Communities,” via the National Sexual Violence Resource Center. “When people really feel like they’re part of their community, they look out for each other,” explained Ciara Hill, Advocacy Program Director, “It’s like being part of a big family – if you see something wrong happening, you’re going to step up. That’s because everyone shares the job of keeping the community safe. When we’re all connected, we’re more likely to do something about violence instead of just walking by. Solving problems like violence starts with us caring about our community enough to work together on fixing what’s wrong.”

In collaboration with Planned Parenthood Advocates of Wisconsin (PPAWI), Lawrence University, & UW Oshkosh, a whole host of events have been planned throughout the month. The following are two featured events (click here for the full list of events):

Throughout the month of April, Planned Parenthood Advocates of Wisconsin will be hosting a supply drive for local domestic violence and sexual assault service providers in Northeast Wisconsin, including Reach Counseling. To view the wishlist, please visit bit.ly/saamsupplydrive.

On Sunday, April 28th from 11:00am – 5:00pm, Easy Street Tattoo (703 Oregon St, Oshkosh, WI 54901) is partnering with Reach and Christine Ann to host their Mark the Change – Get a Tat, Give Back event. The flash tattoo event will involve 5 tattoo artists who will be donating their time for 6 hours. Tattoo prices will range from $80-$200 (cash only), and all proceeds will go to Reach Counseling Services and Christine Ann Domestic Abuse Services.

Join us in making a difference! Check out our full list of events and mark your calendars. Whether it’s donating supplies or getting a tattoo, your involvement brings us one step closer to a world without sexual violence. Let’s build a connected community together.
