Madison College: Says farewell to visionary leader, President Daniels

Acknowledging a commitment to community

The Madison College community is saying goodbye to President Jack E. Daniels III, retiring after more than 11 years of dedicated service to the college and community.

President Daniels consistently prioritized student success, earning accolades and gratitude from all corners of the Madison College family.

“Dr. Daniels’ leadership and vision leaves Madison College in a strong position for the future and uniquely suited to meet the opportunities ahead,” said Donald Dantzler, Madison College District Board of Trustees Chair. “Both the college and community have benefited from his guidance, voice, and steady hand, and we are indebted.”

Daniels came to Madison College in 2013 from Los Angeles Southwest College and quickly became a community leader. He has served area non-profits, and the business community, and worked with multiple organizations while cementing Madison College’s role as a catalyst for economic and workforce development.

His visionary accomplishments include the creation of Madison College’s Goodman South Campus and the formation of a dedicated coalition of area leaders aimed at intentionally serving and supporting the South Madison community.

He worked with college leadership to expand program and apprenticeship offerings, craft new curricula to meet the needs of a changing workforce, and institute numerous new transfer agreements with four-year colleges and universities

Daniels guided the college’s extraordinary COVID-19 pandemic response, which included continuing to provide high-quality, accessible educational opportunities while prioritizing the health and safety of students and employees and ensuring access to necessary services and aid.

His tenure coincided with challenging societal moments during which the school remained unwavering in its commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Under his leadership, the number of students of color served by Madison College increased from 22% to 35% over the past decade. Similarly, the number of employees of color has also grown, especially among Blacks and Latinos.

President Daniels identified what needed to be accomplished and inspired others to pursue a bold vision. The construction of the future Early Learning Campus is a prominent example of his talent for turning transformative ideas into reality to benefit both the college and the community.

“It’s been a privilege to serve this community and this institution,” Daniels said. “Madison College stands head and shoulders above most and is exceptional in what it does and provides. Our faculty and staff fully understand our role in the community and how we can best serve to create a meaningful and lasting impact that changes lives.”

Madison College District Board of Trustees has launched a national search for Daniels’ replacement.
