Kewaunee, WI (April 1, 2024) – Kewaunee County’s Annual Breakfast on the Farm is on Father’s Day, Sunday, June 16th, at Heim’s Hillcrest Dairy, LLC, E3731 Rockledge Rd, Algoma, WI 54201. The dairy farm is a multi-generational family farm. Kewaunee County Dairy Promotion Committee oversees the event, organizing over 200 volunteers annually to provide a delicious meal, farm education, and an unforgettable dairy experience.
The event will begin at 7:00 a.m. with a Catholic church service. Volunteers will start serving breakfast at 8:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. During that time, families can take a farm tour, visit the educational area with equipment displays and a petting zoo, and Randy Peterson will be on hand to entertain the kids.
“As our family grows, we look at the community and what we can do to make a difference,” stated Jeremy Heim, a partner in the farm. “We want to show people that we’re here for the right reason and we are doing the right things. It means a lot to us to be able to have our neighbors be proud of what we do.”
Heim’s Hillcrest Dairy LLC is excited to host this year’s breakfast. It all started in 1963 by Ray and Florence Heim, when they purchased the original farm and started milking just 30 cows. In 1976, Ray and Florence’s son, Lloyd, and his wife, Joyce grew the milking herd to 50 cows. In 1996, after a devastating fire, Lloyd and Joyce rebuilt the current dairy with 200 cows.
In 2000, sons Jeremy and Scott joined the farm in partnership with Lloyd. As the family grew, so did the farm. Additional sites have been added and the home farm now hosts 825 cows. Scott’s wife Carrie is the herd manager. In 2013 Jeremy’s daughter Kiley became full-time to manage the calf raising.
Seeing a need in Kewaunee and surrounding counties for improved manure application, Jeremy and Scott embarked on a new journey, and Heim Brothers Custom was started in 2015. Relying on the highest technology, The Heim team takes great care in continuing to provide neighboring farms handle their manure in a safe, clean, and environmentally friendly way ensuring that all nutrients are recorded and accounted for. In 2020, Lloyd and Joyce’s eldest son, Rod became a partner in the farm and returned as Shop Manager. After graduating from High School, both Jeremy’s son Ben, and Rod’s son Sam, joined the farm full-time in the fieldwork for the farm and the Heim Brothers Custom business.
In March of 2021, the family embarked on a journey to become Carbon Neutral. The first step was to haul the manure from the farm to the NEW digester in Denmark WI. In 2022, a new Cross Ventilated Barn was built. This barn uses the latest technology to control all systems in the barn – from lighting, curtains, and fans to provide the cows with the best climate and environment based on the current temperature in the barn.
A lot has changed in the 60+ years since Ray and Florence started laying the foundation of what is now Heim’s Hillcrest Dairy and Heim Brothers Custom. As a family, they have held to that foundation, with passion and dedication to being an impactful dairy farm family in Kewaunee County and the State of Wisconsin.
