American Red Cross: Mt. Olympus and Red Cross team up to help build blood supply

WISCONSIN (June 20, 2024) — The American Red Cross and Mt. Olympus Water & Theme Park in Wisconsin Dells are teaming up this summer to encourage the community to give blood. Now through July 31, all participating donors at select blood drives throughout the state, will receive a FREE all-day water & theme park ticket to Mt. Olympus, while supplies last. Plus, you will also have a chance to win a grand prize Mt. Olympus package including 5 FREE tickets and a $250 VISA gift card. Restrictions may apply.

The Red Cross encourages people to book a time to give blood now, following a concerning decrease in donations, as over the past month about 20,000 fewer blood donations were collected than needed to maintain the Red Cross national blood supply. Donors of all blood types are needed, especially those with type O blood and donors giving platelets. Appointments are encouraged, but walk-ins are welcome.

The need for blood is constant. Every two seconds, someone in the U.S. needs blood. The Red Cross collects 40% of the nation’s blood supply. Every day, volunteer blood and platelet donors are needed across the country to help save lives. Blood donations to the Red Cross help ensure new moms, premature babies, cancer patients and accident victims have access to safe, lifesaving blood. When you roll up a sleeve to donate, you help change a life.

How to donate blood

Simply download the American Red Cross Blood Donor App, visit RedCrossBlood.org, call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or enable the Blood Donor Skill on any Alexa Echo device to make an appointment or for more information. All blood types are needed to ensure a reliable supply for patients. A blood donor card or driver’s license or two other forms of identification are required at check-in. Individuals who are 17 years of age in most states (16 with parental consent where allowed by state law), weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood. High school students and other donors 18 years of age and younger also have to meet certain height and weight requirements.

Blood and platelet donors can save time at their next donation by using RapidPass® to complete their pre-donation reading and health history questionnaire online, on the day of their donation, before arriving at the blood drive. To get started, follow the instructions at RedCrossBlood.org/RapidPass or use the Blood Donor App.
