Platteville, Grant County, Wisconsin – The Wisconsin Historical Society announces the listing of Trinity Episcopal Church in the National Register of Historic Places on June 20, 2023.

Trinity Episcopal Church was designed by Janesville architect Garry Nettleton and constructed between 1863 and 1865. Though modest in size and appearance, Trinity Episcopal Church is a representative example of the Gothic Revival style, which was popular in Wisconsin at the time. The exterior of the building exhibits several key character-defining features of the style that include pointed-arch windows and doorways, a steeply-pitched gable roof with decorative brickwork along the cornice, stone-capped stepped-brick buttresses, a symmetrical composition, and a projecting central tower with pointed-arch belfry openings and a rosette window. The church also boasts a highly ornate interior with stained glass windows and decoratively carved wood details such as the pointed-arch arcade between the sanctuary and chancel.

Platteville’s Trinity Episcopal congregation has continuously occupied the property for over 150 years, and the church retains a high degree of architectural integrity. As Platteville’s best-preserved mid-nineteenth-century church, it evokes high-style features of the Gothic Revival style.
