Wauwatosa, WI – Students in the Wauwatosa School District earned awards and received invitations to the Global Finals competition at the Destination Imagination Wisconsin Affiliate Tournament on April 1, 2023 in Green Bay, Wisconsin. A total of eight teams from Wauwatosa’s elementary and middle schools competed in Green Bay, and six teams took home medals, along with an invitation to attend the Destination Imagination Global Finals in Kansas City, Missouri May 20-23, 2023.
Missing Pieces (Lincoln Elementary School) won first place in both the Technical Challenge category and the Instant Challenge.
Jiggly Wet Stuff, Inc. (Roosevelt Elementary School) took home third place in the Scientific category and first place in the Instant Challenge.
What’s Our Team Name Again? (Roosevelt Elementary School) took home second place in the Improv category.
Busy Bees (Washington Elementary School) secured a first place win in the Instant Challenge and took third place in Improv.
Look Who’s Laughing Now (Longfellow Middle School) was awarded first place in the Instant Challenge, and Longfellow’s Engineering Team was awarded third place in the Engineering Challenge.
Global Finals is the culminating Challenge Experience tournament for Destination Imagination (DI) teams that advance through Regional and Affiliate Tournaments around the world.
“I continue to be impressed by our young scholars and their achievements,” stated Dr. Demond Means, superintendent of the Wauwatosa School District. “I am confident that the students, staff and families who attend Global Finals will cherish the experience, and they will undoubtedly represent the Wauwatosa School District well at this important competition.”
To offset the $5,500 per team entry fee, the Wauwatosa School District has generously offered to donate up to $16,500 – which equates to 50 percent of the entry fee for each of the six teams invited to attend Global Finals. This donation will make it possible for teams to attend who might have otherwise needed to forgo the opportunity.
The teams that have chosen to attend the Global Finals are Lincoln Elementary School’s Missing Pieces, Roosevelt Elementary School’s What’s Our Team Name Again?, and Washington Elementary School’s Busy Bees. This will be the second appearance at Global Finals for members of What’s Our Team Name Again?, who also competed at last year’s global competition under the team name Umbrellas Go AAHHHH!.
This year, a total of 29 teams represented the Wauwatosa School District in Destination Imagination – more than any other school district in the state of Wisconsin. Teams of students in kindergarten through second grade are non-competitive, and ended their journey this year at the Southeast Sectional Tournament on March 11 in Muskego. The journey also ended here for the teams that didn’t receive the scores required to advance to the State Tournament in Green Bay, and for the teams who chose not to advance to State because of schedule conflicts.
