Washington County Parks: Announce park planning workshops for Heritage Trails Vision 2050 project

West Bend, WI – Washington County Parks have announced a series of public workshops designed to engage members of the community and solicit public input on possible future plansunder development for Heritage Trails County Park in the Town of Polk.

Late last year, the County selected Lannon Stone Products, Inc. through a competitive Request for Proposal process to meet with a variety of community stakeholders including public officials, regulatory agencies, park user groups and neighbors. These meetings will explore the idea, determine the feasibility and plan for constructing of new park amenities in Heritage Trails through land extraction. Lannon Stone Products, Inc. has concluded property exploration and is now developing a plan for consideration by county officials.

The community has a need for sand and gravel reserves that the park deposits would help meet, supporting the aggregate market as an economic engine. Aggregates are the key elements of composites such as asphalt and concrete. The project could be mutually beneficial to both the aggregates market and the parks, which will realize additional environmental and recreational amenities for park visitors. Reclaiming mineral extraction areas for park amenities could feature additional mountain biking trails, water features or other improvements resulting from these workshops and may expand the Heritage Trails County Park visitor experience.

The following meetings open to the public have been scheduled. The purpose of these workshops is to share information about the project and process, and for Lannon Stone Products, Inc. and Washington County Parks to gather input from the public for incorporation into the project and a future park plan.
