PRAIRIE DU CHIEN, Wisc. – As Dairy Month comes to a close, Congressman Derrick Van Orden is celebrating dairy farmers and their contributions to Wisconsin and the nation at large with a new video.
As a member of the House Agriculture Committee, Van Orden understands the importance the dairy industry plays not only in the Third District, but all across Wisconsin. Dairy is a nearly $46 billion industry in the Badger State, producing 25 percent of the nation’s cheese and 2.4 billion pounds of milk every MONTH.
It is why Van Orden worked across the aisle to sponsor the Dairy PRIDE Act, which would put an end to branding non-dairy beverages as “milk.” As the congressman told News8000 earlier this month, “I think it really cheapens the work of our dairy farmers by calling it oat milk. You want to drink oat milk, almond milk, or you know, stuff from algae — knock yourself out. It’s just not milk.”
This dairy month, farmers, cheese makers, and other dairy-adjacent workers know they have a champion in Van Orden, who will fight tooth and nail to ensure their best interests are at the forefront in Washington.
