Madison, WI – Today, the Senate Committee on Natural Resources and Energy held a hearing on legislation to address PFAS contamination in Wisconsin. State Senator Brad Pfaff (D-Onalaska) issued the following statement after the hearing:
“Everyone deserves to feel confident knowing that the water coming out of their tap is safe to drink.”
“Unfortunately, the bill as currently drafted does not meet the needs of the residents in the Town of Campbell in La Crosse County. Unlike many other areas impacted by PFAS, Campbell residents do not receive their water from a municipal well system, and this legislation needs to reflect the challenges communities like Campbell face.”
“Legislation to address PFAS needs to make sure drinking water can be tested for contamination. At the same time, we cannot hamstring the health of our constituents by unnecessarily limiting the number of PFAS chemicals defined in the bill.”
“This bill is a start, but it needs substantial improvements to help all Wisconsinites who have been affected by PFAS contamination.”
