MADISON, WIS. – Senator Rachael Cabral-Guevara released the following statement in response to the Wisconsin Legislature passing the 2023-25 state budget today.

“I was proud to vote for the final product of the budget bill,” said Sen. Rachael Cabral-Guevara. “This bill was the result of endless hours of negotiations between the legislature, stakeholders, and local advocates.”

Senate Bill 70 is the state’s biennial budget that provides funding for state agencies and other appropriations. Some provisions of the budget bills include:

· $4.4 billion in tax cuts

· Over $1.2 billion in one-time investments to state infrastructure and building projects

· Major increase for DOC Security positions to encourage retention and recruitment.

· $525 million for Workforce Housing efforts

· $44.3 million for Wisconsin Shares, Wisconsin’s Child Care Subsidy program

· $30 million for the Child Care Quality Improvement program to fund the resumption of YoungStar bonuses now that ARPA funds are no longer available

“Generational funding for local communities, another record-breaking funding increase for K-12 schools, expanding school choice, significant tax cuts, and attempting to address critical workforce shortages are just a few things that make this budget process different from years past,” said Sen. Rachael Cabral-Guevara. “I want to thank the folks who attended listening sessions, advocated down in Madison, and spoke with me directly about your priorities. Without your input, many of these things would not have been on the table.”
