MKE: Prepared for busy winter holiday travel season

MILWAUKEE (December 13, 2023) – Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport (MKE) is gearing up for the busy holiday travel season with more flights to more places this winter. With new nonstop flights added over the last year, and flight frequencies increasing during the month of December, MKE is prepared to welcome more than 250,000 arriving and departing holiday travelers between now and the end of the year.

Since the beginning of 2023, the Airport’s growth has been fueled by the addition of new destinations. Southwest Airlines restored daily nonstop flights to Kansas City, Delta Air Lines resumed daily flights to Salt Lake City, and American Airlines added new twice-daily service to Washington, D.C.

Next week, American will begin daily flights to Miami while Sun Country Airlines will fly multiple times per week to warm weather destinations including Cancun, Fort Myers, Phoenix, and Orlando. Apple Vacations/FunJet Vacations will also offer seasonal nonstop service to popular vacation destinations like Cancun, Los Cabos, Montego Bay, Puerto Vallarta and Punta Cana.

“2023 has been a year of growth at MKE,” said Airport Director Brian Dranzik. “We’ve already seen more than five million passengers travel through the Airport this year, and we expect to pass the six million mark by the end of 2023. Every time Milwaukee-area travelers choose MKE, it helps the Airport grow and shows the airlines there’s a need for more nonstop flights and new destinations.”

Along with new flight additions, the number of flight options being offered has also increased at MKE. Warm weather destinations like Cancun, Fort Lauderdale, Orlando, Phoenix, Fort Myers, and Tampa, as well as Atlanta, Charlotte, Washington DC, Dallas, Denver, Las Vegas, and St. Louis have all increased in frequency. This also makes it easier for travelers to access destinations around the world with one quick connection.

For those flying during the holiday season, MKE has four helpful reminders:

  1. Arrive Early—we recommend getting to the Airport two hours prior to your departure time, especially if you’re checking bags or flying with small children.
  2. Simplify Parking—Download the MKE SmartPark app to reserve parking and earn rewards. Then use your smartphone to easily scan in and out of the garage.
  3. Check out our Coat Check—Use MKE’s popular Coat Check service, located at the Summerfest Marketplace store, for just $2/day.
  4. Wait to Wrap Gifts—If you’re bringing gifts, make sure they are not wrapped in case TSA needs to look inside.

Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport offers nonstop flights to 30+ destinations coast-to-coast, and more than 200 international destinations are available with one easy connection. MKE is served by Alaska, American, Delta, Frontier, JetBlue, Southwest, Spirit, Sun Country, and United. The complete list of nonstop cities can be found at flymke.com.
