Milwaukee Public Schools: Milwaukee French Immersion celebrates language proficiency with foreign recognition

Milwaukee (May 12, 2023) On Friday, May 12, 2023, at 10 am Milwaukee French Immersion School (2360 N 52ND ST) will host a ceremony to award French diplomas to students for their achievement in the French language on the Prim A1 and A2 exams taken last spring. More than 100 students in grades 3, 5, and 6 will be presented with either the A1 or A2 diploma. Students in 6th grade from Milwaukee School of Languages are invited to attend. There will also be a French musical performance from our 2nd grade class.

The DELF exams attest to the quality of our program, and the amount of time spent in the target language. Students in grades 2 and 4 take the exam each school year.

“Our students, upon learning a foreign language, are able to understand other cultures, enhance problem solving skills and improve their career options as adults. We are extremely excited to be recognized as one of only a few schools in Wisconsin that offer a unique immersion experience,” Principal Jenna Harer said.

  • DELF Prim is aimed at students age 7 to 11. The A1 and A2 exams allow students to engage in the most basic aspects of the foreign language. The tests consist of listening comprehension, reading comprehension, writing, and speaking in a guided conversation that allows expression and exchanging information.
  • Students receiving the DELF Prim Diplomas at the elementary level will have an opportunity to achieve the DELF Junior Diploma in middle school and high school between the ages of 12 and 18.

Studies have shown the benefits of learning a foreign language: increasing knowledge of the world, expanding understanding of world affairs, and offering a broader range of occupations worldwide.
