MILWAUKEE –The Milwaukee Press Club and WisPolitics.com will present a Newsmaker Luncheon on Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2023, featuring playwright, writer and director Eric Simonson.
Simonson’s latest project is a new world premiere musical Run Bambi Run, which premieres at the Milwaukee Repertory Theater Sept. 13 and runs through Oct. 22.
The true-crime musical with music by Gordon Gano of The Violent Femmes and directed by Milwaukee Rep artistic director Mark Clements, details the saga of Laurie Bembenek, who was convicted of the 1981 murder of her then-husband’s ex-wife, although many believed she was not guilty. Bembenek later escaped from Taycheedah Correctional Institution and fled to Canada.
Simonson is an ensemble member of Steppenwolf Theatre Company in Chicago. He holds the distinction of being one of only a handful of directors who has received Tony, Emmy and Oscar nominations.
He will be interviewed by long-time Milwaukee radio personality and press club past president Gene Muller and will take questions from the audience.
The public is invited to attend the event from 11:45 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. at the Newsroom Pub in downtown Milwaukee at 137 E. Wells St.
