Midwest Artist Academy: Applications are now open

Applications for the Midwest Artist Academy are now open. The MAA is a transformative, precollege experience for 14-18-year-old artists in five disciplines: creative writing, dance, theatre, visual arts and music.

Throughout the week, young artists will work closely alongside world-class professors and instructors to create a final showcase on the last night of the program. The MAA will host its fourth season on the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire campus from July 7-14, 2024.

This summer’s instructors include Dr. Chiayu Hsu (music), Elizabeth Tanner (theatre), Kathryn Rulien-Bareis (visual art), Tara Lynn Steele (dance) and Ken Szymanski (writing).

“Each summer MAA offers a unique and exciting week filled with collaboration and creation,” MAA director Arthur Grothe says. “MAA continues to work to educate young artists, connect them to working artists and build a foundation to help develop their artistic products and process.”

Applications close on Feb. 1, 2024. All 14-18-year-old artists are encouraged to apply at www.midwestartistacademy.org. Partial scholarships are available.

“This entire camp has shown me what humanity can be like when we fully come together,” one MAA alumna recently remarked. “Sharing trust, making friendships and collaborating to make a wonderful piece of art to show to the world.”
