PARDEEVILLE, WI (April 11, 2023) – This September just past,
Wisconsin-based Marcellon Courtland Springvale Mutual Insurance
Company’s long-time president and board leader John Furman was presented
with the industry’s Distinguished Service Award. As both the 30-year CEO
of the organization and a policyholder for more than 80 years (through
his family farm), Furman has had the rare honor of both helming the
organization as well as understanding the importance of its work. His
service, his leadership, his involvement, and his advocacy have helped
fuel the mutual-insurance industry’s support of those who depend upon
it.
At the Marcellon Annual Meeting on April 11, Patrick Laws (WAMIC
president) was able to re-present the Distinguished Service Award to
John Furman. The award was originally presented at WAMIC’s September 12
dinner, a gathering and celebration that has served to launch send-ups
of representatives of the community previously. However, members of the
group were surprised to hear the notably spotlight-shy Furman’s name
announced as recipient of the Distinguished Service Award.
“I can’t believe we did this for John,” declared Marcellon Courtland
Springvale Mutual Insurance Company manager Tammy Cutsforth. “He’s been
a towering figure for so long – our strongest asset, and a huge
contributor to the modern state of the organization. This role is who he
is. There are men on our board whose fathers worked with John; to call
him anything less than an icon of this profession would be understating
the consequence of his relevance.”
John Furman’s work in the insurance and mutual business reaches back
decades, and his relationship with the Marcellon Courtland Springvale
Mutual Insurance Company is nearing a century’s register. While not so
aged to have been with the organization at its founding in 1889, his
family’s farm has held policy with the Marcellon Courtland Springvale
Mutual Insurance Company since 1940. Furman’s own work on the board of
directors – as a head of the board and active policy agent – extends
back to 1989, being elected president of the board in 1995 (the role he
still operates with aplomb today). He rarely misses a WAMIC meeting, and
his ring is the one of the few still worth kissing at industry events
held nationwide.
The folks at Marcellon Courtland Springvale Mutual Insurance Company and
their constituents, beneficiaries and friends ask that you join them in
celebrating John Furman’s successes, and honor his work over such a
great span. Congrats, John.
