Inside spaces remain open and welcome families seeking to get away from the dangerous air conditions
Madison Children’s Museum is open 9 am–4 pm today, Wednesday, June 28. While all outdoor areas will be closed due to the poor air quality, all indoor spaces will remain open.
Indoor air quality within the museum is expected to be good: During the pandemic, the museum updated its HVAC system to the MERV-13 filtration level and added needlepoint bipolar ionization technology.
Staff are creating additional pop-up activities within the museum to engage guests who might otherwise have visited the museum’s three popular outdoor play areas.
With many outdoor summer programs closing and many families lacking air conditioning, the museum is committed to being a safe, comfortable place for children and families to play and breathe. The museum offers a generous discounted-admission program, Access for Everyone, offering $1 admission to families who qualify for any of more than twenty social programs, including food stamps or BadgerCare. The museum’s Community Concourse area—from the entry doors to the admission desk—does not require an admission fee to visit. This includes the Little John’s Lunchbox cafe, which offers pay-what-you-can meals.
The museum is carefully monitoring air quality conditions and will reopen outdoor areas once the air quality improves to safer levels.
