LUXEMBURG, Wis. – Bob Miller, a 1965 graduate of Luxemburg High School, is the recipient of the 2023 Luxemburg-Casco School District Distinguished Alumni Award. He has impacted the local community for more than a half-century, in agriculture and faith.
The Luxemburg-Casco School District annually recognizes a past graduate at its graduation ceremony. Among the criteria in selection of the Distinguished Alumni Award are achievement in high school or beyond, community service and the ability to serve as an inspiration to L-C students. The 2023 commencement will be held May 24.
“Bob returned to Luxemburg following college and has made his mark on our community – through work and personal service – for more than 50 years,” says Principal Troy Haws. “Farming is a pillar industry in our area, and he has been an expert within the field. Bob also is a highly respected leader within the local faith community. He illustrates to our students the imprint they can make on those around them after graduation.”
Miller was impacted by more than the classroom at Luxemburg High School, meeting a fellow classmate, Linda, to whom he has been married to for 54 years.
He grew up in the Village of Luxemburg, and his father owned a small farm outside the village. Miller developed an interest in agriculture through work on the farm as a youth.
Following his graduation from LHS, Miller attended nearby St. Norbert College, graduating in 1969 with a degree in business administration. That same year, he and Linda married.
Linda’s family also owned a farm, and with her parents’ retirement nearing Bob and Linda assumed operations of the farm shortly after his graduation from St. Norbert and their marriage. They continue to operate the farm to this day, having served as an agricultural leader in Northeast Wisconsin for more than half a century.
Miller shares that his faith experience was an important part of his life as well. He was ordained as a deacon by the Catholic Diocese of Green Bay in May 2005, serving in that role for many years at St. Mary Luxemburg parish. Although now retired, he continues to assist at St. Mary and Holy Trinity School in Casco as needed, and hopes to continue to do so as long as he is able.
While in high school, Miller was enthusiastic about sports, participating in football and basketball. Academically, he was a member of the National Honor Society and also served on the student council.
Miller’s family also consists of two sons, Steve (wife: Jessica) and Jeffrey (Kimberlee), along with four grandchildren: Caleb (age 21), Rylee (19), Evelyn (16) and Isaac (12). Steve will introduce him during the commencement ceremony.
He still enjoys planting crops on his family’s farm with the help of Steve.
David Dax, a 1973 Luxemburg-Casco graduate, was the 2022 winner of the Distinguished Alumni Award.
