Plymouth, WI – Oct. 26 – Lemons of Love is providing Chemo Care Packages to Veterans Affairs hospitals around the United States this November in honor of Veterans Month.
To help veterans who are also going through cancer treatment, Lemons of Love founder Jill Swanson created a custom care package that can be donated to VA Hospitals and individual veterans who are battling cancer. The Veterans Chemo Care Package box color is blue, representing the veterans who served in the United States.
“Veterans can be severely impacted by cancer because of what their bodies went through while serving,” said Swanson. “Their stories really pulled at my heart strings. Making a conscious effort to deliver care packages to Veterans Affairs Hospital is a priority of mine every year during the month of November.”
The Veterans Chemo Care Package deliveries are greatly appreciated by Veterans Affairs Hospitals that often need more support than traditional hospitals. The bulk deliveries from Lemons of Love help cancer patients during a hard time. The care packages include items that help with the physical and emotional side effects of treatment, such as lemon drops that help eliminate the metal taste in patients’ mouths –a common side effect of chemotherapy—and “happy pictures” drawn by children to spark joy.
Lemons of Love was created in 2014 when Swanson was diagnosed with cancer. As she went through chemotherapy, Swanson realized the need for products that help with the side effects of cancer. Inspired by gifts a friend gave her, Swanson began her own project of finding helpful and thoughtful cancer care items, turning it into her own nonprofit organization called Lemons of Love.
