BROOKFIELD, WIS. (November 7, 2023) – Brookfield electrical contracting and lighting firm, Lemberg Signs and Lighting, is proud to announce its outstanding achievements in the 2023 Wisconsin Sign Association Sign Design Contest, which recognizes Wisconsin’s leading sign companies and their professional designers. Lemberg designers clinched first place in two distinct categories, Wayfinding and Electronic Message Center (EMC), showcasing their dedication to creativity, innovation, and excellence in signage design.
Wayfinding Award: Menomonee Falls Village Park Sign Designs
Lemberg’s win in the Wayfinding category recognizes the exceptional work put forth by Eric Bailey, designer and art director, and Tom Lehn, operations manager. With their combined 45 years of sign design, engineering, and installation experience, they brought the vision of Menomonee Falls Village Park to life. Their holistic approach yielded a set of signs that guides park-goers, highlights functionality, and acknowledges the generous sponsors who contributed to the park’s realization.
“It can be challenging to integrate strong sponsor brands such as Milwaukee Tool, Froedtert and the Medical College of Wisconsin, and Kohl’s, while not overshadowing other business contributors or individual donors,” said John Wachniak, Lemberg Signs and Lighting Department Manager. “The amphitheater was built before sponsorships, which presented additional challenges because the construction was not prepared to support a sign. Eric, Tom, and their team did a great job designing and safely installing within the limited mounting options, while delivering an award-winning concept that will complement the park for many years to come.”
The design considered location, sign purpose, current sign design trends, manufacturing, materials, and park aesthetics. Special care was devoted to safety considerations, particularly in play areas. The archway at the entrance to the children’s play area draws inspiration from the playset’s dome, for a rainbow effect. The individual donor sign features a layered tree-shaped design, symbolizing growth inspired by the donors.
Electronic Message Center (EMC) Award: Schleisingerville to Slinger Historical Museum Sign
In the EMC category, Lemberg Signs and Lighting secured first place for their work on the Schleisingerville to Slinger Historical Museum sign. Lemberg donated all sign fabrication, creative services at cost, and all installation labor. The monument sign design is a collaborative effort of Bailey and Lehn, who is also the museum’s president.
The Schleisingerville to Slinger Historical Museum was founded in 2019 by Lehn during Slinger’s 150th anniversary. Located in a former railroad depot and E.H. Wolf and Sons headquarters, the museum houses over 5000 pieces in permanent and rotating exhibits that celebrate the village’s 178-year history. It has become an integral part of the community, with Lehn overseeing its promotion and maintenance.
“The museum’s sign project breathes new life into the community’s history,” said Lehn. “It incorporates a refurbished EMC sign donated from a museum friend and repurposed cream city brick from a local demolished 1898 home. We wanted a historic essence to the sign, and I think we achieved that with unique details like 23K real gold leaf striping and aluminum scrollwork.”
