(Milwaukee) – Hundreds are expected to gather at the eighth annual challah bake on Tuesday. Not your typical cooking class, this event appeals to the gourmet baker and the woman who has never dipped her hand in flour!
On Tuesday, November 14, 6:30 PM , at The Jewish Community Center,
the Eighth Annual Mega Challah bake will be a fun, inspiring evening with great feminine energy.
This event is brought to you by the Jewish Women’s Circle of Lubavitch of Wisconsin.
Participants will mix and knead their own dough, learn an array of braiding
techniques and the traditional and mystical meaning behind every step that
goes into making this fragrant bread. Challah, the popular Jewish food is a braided bread traditionally eaten on
Shabbat and Jewish holidays.
This year’s theme is RISE FOR ISRAEL, and the focus will be on the Jewish community’s support of Israel. The same date as the Israel March to Washington, DC, the challah bake will serve as a local gathering in unity with the Jewish community nationwide.
From the times of our matriarch Sarah in the Bible over 4000 years ago,
challah and the traditions connected to it, has been a magical gift observed
by the Jewish woman.
“Challah is so much more than just bread. We are taught that through the mitzvah of baking challah we acknowledge that everything we are fortunate to have and be able to give to others, is a blessing from G-d,” says Mushka Lein of YJP Milwaukee. “While reciting the blessing on challah a woman has a direct channel to G-d at this point and it’s an opportune time to ask for all that is on her heart and mind.”
This annual favorite event carries added significance as Jewish communities
worldwide unite in support of Israel, and stand up to antisemitism.
“There’s nothing that tells the world that the Jewish people are alive and well like getting three hundred Jewish women in one room to sing, to share, and to connect,” says Lein.
The event is open to the public for women and girls.
