Fox Cities, Wis. (Oct. 6, 2023) – In an effort to inspire more young women to engage in local STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) programs, the Fox Cities Chamber, along with host Plexus Corp., has teamed up to present Smart Girls Rock! on Wednesday, November 1.
“Smart Girls Rock! gets local female students excited about careers in STEM through this day-long, interactive mentoring event,” said the Chamber’s Aimee Herrick, Director of Events and Emerging Talent. “Hosted within the walls of a regional STEM employer, Plexus, the event connects the Fox Cities science and tech community with girls in area high schools to inspire their interest in STEM careers and provide academic and career planning guidance to get where they want to go.”
Approximately 100 freshmen, sophomore, and junior female students from several Fox Cities area schools will attend the one-day event at Plexus, 2444 Schultz Dr., in Neenah. The students will experience group speed mentoring with women in STEM-related professions, as well as participate in other interactive activities that will expose them to in-demand STEM careers.
Smart Girls Rock! allows young girls to set career goals and start taking steps to realize the realities of those goals. During the 12 speed mentoring sessions, small groups of students will move through interactive stations, comprised of panels of professional women as well as hands-on activities that include:
- It’s Bloody Science!: Finding a Blood Droplet’s Angle of Impact
- The Food Science of Ice Cream: Where Science meets Delicious!
- Encapsulation is Everywhere: How Encapsulation Surrounds Everyday Life
- Bee Techie: How Packaging is Designed, Printed, and Assembled
- Learn the Layers of a Road by Creating your own Edible Rocky Roadway!
Smart Girls Rock! is made possible through the generous support of presenting sponsors Plexus, Boldt, and Menasha Corporation along with platinum sponsor Walbec Group, gold sponsor McMahon, and in-kind sponsors Galloway Company and 4imprint.
“Plexus is committed to developing, empowering, and hiring women interested in pursuing STEM studies or careers. They add creativity, ingenuity, and problem solving skills that help propel businesses, such as Plexus, forward,” said Todd Kelsey, Chief Executive Officer.
We are continuously looking for opportunities to inspire the next generation of women in STEM, and we are thrilled to welcome this young group to our facility in November.”
