Whitefish Bay, WI — Dec. 12, 2023 — Fitzgerald Pharmacy now includes a full-service eatery and coffee shop, Fitzy’s Cafe. The Whitefish Bay gathering space offers craft coffee plus an all-day chef-curated food menu.
Fitzy’s Cafe is a nod to the original pharmacy at 424 E. Silver Spring Drive, a neighborhood staple that served the North Shore community for 65 years and was fondly remembered for its sandwich counter, soda fountain and candy. The existing Fitzgerald Pharmacy took over the vacated property but retained its nostalgic name and reintroduced locally sourced treats for its 2022 opening.
“The cafe format was a natural next step for us,” said Fitzgerald Pharmacy President Tamir Kaloti. “Food is fuel. As is coffee, for many of us. We’re excited to offer something for everyone, while infusing fun culinary twists that appeal to all the senses. Whether that’s our Labneh Tartine or Elderflower and Matcha ‘Gin’ Rickey, everything has a personalized touch.”
Last month, Fitzy’s Cafe quietly debuted specialty coffee blends by Midwest roasters plus French pastries and sweet and savory breakfast dishes. The locally sourced menu just expanded to all-day cuisine, including vegan, gluten-free and kid-friendly options. No alcohol will be served.
“The drink program at Fitzy’s is designed to channel all the fun and nostalgia of the old school soda fountain into innovative, thoroughly modern concoctions,” said Discourse Coffee founder and author of “The New Art of Coffee,” Ryan Castelaz, who curated Fitzy’s coffee and tea program. “Ranging from expertly prepared traditional beverages to experimental serves and everything in between, this is a menu you can return to time and time again, always uncovering a future favorite.”
The airy cafe features a modernized luncheonette setting, complete with a food counter, craft coffee bar and lounge seating. Guests can order at the counter and seat themselves or take food to go. The cafe’s convenient location within the pharmacy offers a unique retail opportunity for customers to shop, stock up on coveted health and beauty products or simply pick up a prescription as they await their order. Patio seating is available during warmer months.
Fitzy’s elevated guest experience centers on its distinctive bistro menu. Every dish is prepared fresh in-house using organic, high-quality ingredients. Residents can expect familiar favorites like avocado toast but also unexpected dishes and unique flavor variations.
“There are plenty of places to grab coffee or a bite to eat,” said Chef Kay Dieterman. “We want to make every visit memorable. Fitzy’s isn’t a greasy spoon establishment or a typical bistro, and that’s evidenced by early menu favorites like our Bananas Foster Croissant, Mediterranean Egg Salad Tartine and Salmon Bacon LT. We love seeing guests come back to further explore the menu and taste something new.”
Fitzy’s Cafe is open daily from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. A grand opening celebration is slated for January and will coincide with the rollout of a finalized menu, plus online ordering and delivery options.
