MADISON, Wisconsin – October 10, 2023 – Foundations are poured for a new Habitat neighborhood which will bring four twin-homes serving eight families to Oregon. Habitat currently has 13 homes built in the Oregon/Brooklyn community and are excited to add to that number with this 1.3-acre Kay Court neighborhood.
Starting at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 12, Kay Court will be bustling with activity as more than 64 volunteers from Alliant Energy will build the walls for a home that will be permanently located in the neighborhood.
A future homeowner, Adjele Neglokpe, whose family will live on Kay Court, will be onsite working alongside the volunteers building in the neighborhood.
“I am so happy that we will be stable and will not have to move again, and that we are safe,” said Adjele.
Adjele lives with her eight-year-old son Uriel, and mother Essivi and is most looking forward to providing her son with the stability that homeownership brings.
“I can’t wait to see my son building friendships and playing with kids in the neighborhood. My mom and I are excited to have a garden and have our family over for get-togethers,” said Adjele. “I want to show my son that hard work pays off when you want something that means a lot to you. This neighborhood means so much to us. I want to teach him more responsibility and have him understand that good things come when you are patient.”
Hunger and housing are giving focus areas of the Alliant Energy Foundation. This focus provides sustainable solutions to move people out of hunger and housing insecurity. Last year, the Alliant Energy Foundation invested nearly $1.3 million in hunger and housing initiatives.
“Alliant Energy is proud to support Habitat for Humanity of Dane County’s work to create sustainable solutions for housing security,” said Julie Bauer, Executive Director, Alliant Energy Foundation. “We are committed to building stronger communities and making a positive difference where Alliant Energy employees, retirees and customers live and work. We hope our work can be a small part of providing stability and safety for Adjele and her family.”
Since 1987 Habitat for Humanity of Dane County has been building in partnership with low-to-moderate-income families in 18 different communities throughout Dane County. Currently Habitat is building in Madison, Sun Prairie, Stoughton, and Oregon.
