FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Waukesha, Wisconsin, January 16, 2020 – Hamacher Resource Group, Inc. (HRG) and the National Community Pharmacists Association (NCPA) have entered a unique agreement wherein HRG is offering NCPA members special pricing for its Rx Track-and-Trace Compliance Service.
Under the Drug Supply Chain Security Act (DSCSA), it is required by law that drugs be traced as they move through the supply chain, and pharmacies must:
- Only accept prescription drugs that are accompanied by three pieces of product tracing documentation – transaction information, transaction history, and transaction statement.
- Store the product tracing documentation received in paper or electronic format for six years. Pharmacies may negotiate third-party agreements with business partners to store such product tracing documentation.
- Generate and provide the three-part product tracing documentation with the transaction if a prescription drug is transferred to a trading partner unless the prescription drug is transferred from a pharmacy to another pharmacy for dispensing to a specific patient.
HRG’s service relieves the burden from the dispenser providing not only a repository solution, but also proactive monitoring of transactions to identify any anomalies that should be investigated. This unique functionality provides peace of mind and limits the need to add additional staff to oversee the legitimacy of supply chain transactions.
Beginning November 2020, pharmacies must only accept pharmaceutical products that include 2-D serialized product identifiers, except for those items otherwise grandfathered or not covered under the DSCSA regulation. HRG’s solution not only assists pharmacies in creating standard operating procedures (SOPs) to address this requirement but also can work with the pharmacy to implement scanning equipment and processes to comply. Additionally, the SOP will help pharmacies formally address quarantine practices for suspect items and the steps to take in the event counterfeiting or adulterated drugs are discovered in the supply chain. According to NCPA CEO B. Douglas Hoey, pharmacist, MBA, “Pharmacy owners are required to comply with the law and put in place systems to track, store, and manage pharmaceutical purchase data. We are pleased to announce this arrangement with our long-time supporter, Hamacher Resource Group, to help pharmacists meet the requirements of the law.” HRG’s proven application allows the exchange of information so the details of Rx transactions are safely stored, extracted, and reported as needed under the law.
“HRG’s approach is to work directly with our retail pharmacy members and offer a solution that considers the unique needs of community pharmacists. Additionally, their reputation and commitment to independent pharmacy has been unwavering,” said Kurt Proctor, NCPA senior vice president, strategic initiatives.
