MADISON – The first Organic Advisory Council meeting of 2014 will be on January 15 at the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP). The meeting will be held from 9:45 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the Board Room at 2811 Agriculture Drive, Madison. The public is welcome to attend.
The Council will hear a presentation by guest speaker Dr. Chris Kucharik of the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He will speak about the potential impacts of climate change on Wisconsin agriculture. The Council will also discuss a recently completed national study on the nutritional quality of organic milk.
The agenda includes agency reports. Participating agencies include: DATCP, Department of Natural Resources, U.S. Department of Agriculture Natural Resources Conservation Service and Farm Service Agency, Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation, Wisconsin Technical College System, and the University of Wisconsin College of Agricultural and Life Sciences and Extension.
The quarterly meeting will cover nominations for seats opening on the Organic Advisory Council. Members serve three-year terms and represent organic farms, businesses, educational institutions, the certification industry and consumers.
